The Nevada Music Teachers Association is an organization of over 250 musicians devoted to nurturing the musical community with performance and educational opportunities, in addition to setting and following high standards of professionalism. NMTA provides a large variety of activities and events for teachers and students.
NMTA was founded in 1966 and has been affiliated since 1978 with Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), which has a membership of over 24,000 musicians nationwide. NMTA adopts the same values and goals of MTNA, which provides members additional benefits and services.
An annual State Conference is held each November and features high-caliber performing and teaching artists. Past conference artists have included James Giles, Dennis Alexander and Hans Boepple. The conference program includes of workshops, master classes, recitals and social events, in addition to the first round of the MTNA Competition. NMTA members can also attend the annual MTNA National Conference.
Members receive a subscription to the NMTA Newsletter, published three times annually. Members also receive a membership contact list. Membership in NMTA and MTNA includes a subscription to American Music Teacher, a national scholarly journal which is published every two months.
Students studying with NMTA members may participate in various local, state, and national performance and composition competitions and festivals.
